Seeds cut down in age tennis
PA Auckland Seeds were cut down mercilessly in the national 14 years and under boys' singles when the age tennis championships continued at Stanley Street. Auckland. yesterday. Only the second, third and fifth seeds survived to the quarterfinals of the BP nationals, which will be played today. Darrell Paterson, North Otago, the second seed, will be the favourite to win the title after top-seeded William Laban, of Auckland, went out to Fenwick Snowden. Waikato, 4-6, 1-6. The fourth seed, Gregory Young, of Canterbury, battled over three sets against Robert Gray, of Canterbury, but was ousted. Scott Perkins, of Canterbury, the seventh seed, went out to North Shore's Andrew McEwan. II years and under Boys’ singles Third round: G. Young (Canterbury) beat B. Jenkins (North Otago), 6-4, 6-2; R. Gray (Canterbury) beat D. Kidd (Western Bay of Plenty), 6-3, 7-6; S. Perkins (Canterbury) beat G. Traill (Northland), 6-1. 6-0. Fourth round: Gray beat Young, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3; A, McEwan (North Shore) beat Perkins. 6-6, default.
Girls' singles
