Better tone to wool market

The wool market had a better tone at the Christchurch sale yesterday. Finer wools sold reasonably well at rates similar to those at the last Christchurch sale at the beginning of December, though for some wools the market was quoted below pre-Christmas Dunedin rates. A lot of these wools still brought between about 300 c and 400 c a kilogram. Though selling at more modest levels than in December, some crossbred

enjoyed a better sale than at the most recent sale of similar wools, at Wanganui. A pleasing aspect of the sale was that most of the wool was taken up by the trade, barely 6 per cent going to the Wool Board. The Government will still add nearly a quarter more to growers’ returns and most crossbred growers will also receive a supplement from the Wool Board. The sale will conclude tomorrow.
