Festival approved
PA Auckland The Sweetwaters music festival due to begin next week has been approved by the Planning Tribunal. But the future of more festivals at the Pukekawa
site might be in doubt because the tribunal has reserved its decision on that matter. Objections raised by the 21 Pukekawa residents at the hearing included opposition on the grounds of noise, trespass, traffic, and dogs, and a possibility, later discounted, that there would be a risk of a cattle tapeworm disease outbreak. Judge Turner, after hearing evidence by Professor David Blackmore, of Massey University, ruled that the risk of such an outbreak was insufficient to stop the festival, for which all tickets have now been sold. The festival's co-organiser, Mr Paul McLuckie, said that the decision was fair.
