Mustard in vital match today
PA Auckland David Mustard, the touring professional who was the national tennis champion in 1978, will meet the Southern Methodist University (Texas) graduate. Jai Dilouie, in a vital singles of the Satellite circuit today. But to win, the Aucklander. who is the third seed in the $32,000 Air New Zealand Satellite Circuit tournament at Forrest Hill, North Shore, will have to play much better than he did against the 1981 junior champion. James Dunphy (Hutt Valley) yesterday.
Mustard, playing his second tournament match on grass in recent months, was tentative to the extreme in the first set and could be lucky to have gained a 7-6. 62 win.
In the feature match yesterday. the top-seeded Aucklander, Bruce Derlin, beat the Cuban-born American, Rockie Basquez, 6-4, 6-4. Derlin broke his opponent in the second game only to lose that advantage in the third.
Australian’s Wesley Horskins played to his 11th seeding, beating Britain’s Stuart Dale, 2-6, 6-0,. 6-0. America’s Dick Metz, a qualifier and first-round loser in last week’s Benson and Hedges Open, reached the last 16 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Australia’s Stephen Maloney.
