Stormy Morn off to Melbourne
The Dominion Handicap winner. Stormy Morn, and the well-performed Stevie Prestige are booked to leave Auckland either on Thursday or Saturday to be campaigned in Melbourne. They will have races carrying total stakes of about $75,000 to suit them between January 23 and March 20. Stormy Morn, owned in Christchurch by Mr Peter Moore, will jo'in the Melbourne stables of Jim O'Sullivan, who prepared him for a successful campaign at Moonee Valley last year, when his wins included the $30,000 Australasian Trotting Championship, a race on his programme again this year. Another northern trotter, Our Evander. is booked to leave early next month to
contest major events in Melbourne, while it is possible the Wellington mare. Special Pride, will make the trip. She is to race at the Auckland Cup meeting before a final decision is made about racing her in Melbourne. The stablemates, Te Puke Expects and Hochenheim, and Hurricane Shannon, Vita man and Trevira are the only New Zealand entrants for the Inter-dominion Championship series, which will begin at Gloucester Park, Perth, on Friday, March 5. The smart northern two-year-old pacer? Smooth Wave, is due to travel to Melbourne in the next few days to contest the Edgar Tatlow Stakes, the $30,000 final of which will be run at Moonee Valiev on February 6.
