Stewart Fountain and City Mall

Sir.— I suggest that the ultra-modern Stewart Fountain could be re-sited instead of being returned to the Cashel Street-High Street Mall. It is more restful without the stark, shiny arms of this fountain, which, in truth, barely shares the surroundings in which it is placed. I have deep regard for Sir Robertson Slewart, but I wonder if he would give thought and consideration to the placing of his fountain amid more natural surroundings. I have in mind the Queen Elizabeth II Park position where the Air New Zealand wind-sculpture was. This would blend splendidly with the restful, open, park-like surroundings of the entrance. I visualise the Triangle corner as a “rest" area for shoppers (to match the Cashel Street end) or. perhaps, an ideal space for an attractive information booth— Yours, etc., H. S. HOLMES.
