Intensive cycling reaps benefits

Bv

RAY CAIRNS

The benefits of the intensive track racing in Tasmania during the holiday period were reflected in the form of Terry Gyde and Steve Doherty at Wednesday evening's track cycling meeting at Denton Park. The professional pair dominated their events, though both had to be content with minor plaeings in the 400 m. In that Graham Schist pounded clear with 600 m to ride and Gyde. his Bascik team-mate, was content with that. When the chase went on. Gyde bided his time and comfortably held off Doherty for second. Earlier. Gyde had’ won the 400 m. while Doherty picked up two seconds in ' handicap races unwrapping a particularly strong lead-out finish in the wheelbrace. Surprisingly, a large number picked up consistent plaeings John Cleary. Clayton Yaxley. Nigel Dent. Brian Roulston arid Mike Doyle all featuring mon than once

Something like their time was shown by Craig Adair and William Rastrick in the amateur events. The latter, finishing very sharply, won twice and put in some solid work in the 8000 m. while Adair appeared to be edged out right on the line in that race.

But he surprisingly got the decision from Murray , Steele, who did not otherwise have a meeting in keeping with his preChristmas and holiday form. The best results in the B grade were returned by John Hughes, showing a lot’ of sharpness despite his late start to the season. Results. - PROFESSIONAL Scratch.—B grade 400 m: B Roulston 1. K.
