Shipping news Small ship container exchanges increase
The number of small ship container exchanges (of less than 300 containers) increased to 63 per cent of the total through-put at the Lyttelton container terminal in 1981. This was 5 per cent more than in 1980. In spite of the slower work
involved in handling small ship exchanges, the terminal held its over-all work-rate at 21 containers per gross hour with one portainer crane. The manager of the container terminal. Mr P. G. Morgan, said yesterday that at 63 per cent of its total through-put of con-
tainers. Lyttelton handled significantly more small ship exchanges than any other New Zealand port. However. Lyttelton had still been able to ’ maintain a high over-all gross rate, higher than Auckland or Wellington, and only 1 per cent less than Port Chalmers with its two cranes. ARRIVALS Nil.
