England too good for Int.

PA Hamilton An elegant 138 not out from the opening batsman. Janette Brittin highlighted an easy win for England over the International XI in a Women’s World Cup cricket match at Hamilton yesterday. Brittin made the most of an idea! Seddon Park batting strip to completely dominate the International bowling attack as England cruised to 234 for three in its 60 overs. In reply the International side could manage only 111 for eight wickets, giving England a 123run win. Brittin and Sue Goatman combined in a 71-run opening stand to set England on the road to a big score, before Goatman was caught behind for 28. Brittin scored 74 of a 109-run second wicket partnership with Megan Lear, who was content to feed the opener the strike, and scored 25 of her 35 runs in singles. Brittin had a life at 45, and again twice at 95. when Gill McConway put down caught-and-

bowled chances off two successive balls. But once past the century, which came in 164 minutes from 143 balls, and included nine boundaries, she continued to drive and cut attractively.

England lost Lear and Chris Watmough chasing runs towards the end of the innings, but the captain. Rachel Heyhoe-Flint stayed with Brittin to see the overs out.

Faced with the task of scoring more than four runs an over on a pitch which played lower and slower as the day wore on. International got away to a slow start, and never got out of the doldrums.

Lynn Thomas and Chris Miller took seven overs to score seven runs, and once the stand was broken at 44 the middle order provided little resistance. A controlled spell of bowling from Jan Tedstone netted her the remarkable figures of two for six from 12 overs, while Carole Hodges, Helen Stother, Watmough and Lear all picked up cheap wickets.
