Cannabis found
Ninety-seven well ated and protected cannabis plants were destroyed on the banks of the Rakaia River yesterday. Detective Sergeant R. A. McCrory, of the Ashburton C. 1.8., said that Constable D. J. Beck at Methven was given information by members of the public and a police search revealed four small plots of cannabis plants more than a metre tall. The plants were protected by netting and fertiliser was found nearby. The area, about 17 kilometres from Methven, was rough grazing for cattle. Further inquiries would be made, said Detective Sergeant McCrory.
