Log bridge at Horseshoe Lake
This new log bridge at Horseshoe Lake is on a wilderness track extension now being built by Christchurch City Council workers through the bush and swamp reserve east of the Shirley golf course. The first part of the walking track, from Liggins and Parish streets to a point across from the Dudley Creek diversion outlet, was formed two years ago. It passes through some of NewZealand’s most unusual urban wilderness, a breeding ground for pukekos and ducks. The track extension will eventually reach south to the Burwood Park end of the bush reserve, and picnic areas north of Horseshoe Lake will have access to the track over footbridges.
