General forecast: The ridge of high pressure over the North Island is moving away to the east and a weak frontal zone over the South Island is moving slowly north-east. The anticyclone centred west of Tasmania is spreading eastwards towards the South Island, where it should be cloudy with drizzle areas in Westland, Buller, and Nelson. The cold front south of Tasmania is expected to reach Christchurch late today with showers and freshening south-westerlies on the east coast.

District forecasts: Canterbury: Cloudy with areas of rain but finer intervals increasing inland; winds mainly between south and east, moderate at times about the coast. Marlborough: Cooler, moderate southerlies spreading north with cloudy skies and some light rain. Nelson, Buller, Westland: Cloud increasing and light rain developing; light winds, becoming cooler. Outlook: Becoming fine in all districts.
