Where is “Overseas?”

Sir,—l heard yet again on the radio that a vessel is leaving New Zealand “for overseas." Can any of your esteemed correspondents enlighten me on the whereabouts of this country, which is not listed in “The Times Atlas?” This raises (I hope) the question of the Earth’s shape. I wonder if the discovery by de Selby (in O’Brien, F., “The Third Policeman”) that the Earth is sausage-shaped has been corroborated by any reader? This hypothesis, com-

ing from a man who spent a lifetime trying to dilute water, seems rather far-fetched. My own view is that the Earth is egg-shaped. Dr Henry Maustrauser agrees. Indeed I suspect that in fact it is an egg, with a very large bird trying to get out. The beak is producing our Alps, known to be still going up. And when it gets out, well at least be rid of the megathinking Moa. — Yours, etc., A. R. CRAWFORD, Professor of Geology, Institute of Cosmic Awareness and Galactic Mesmerism. January 13. 1982. [Our correspondent may also wish to know the whereabouts of “Abroad." — Editor.)
