Chosen skater youngest

PA Nelson A girl aged 11, Tracey Mills, of Papatoetoe, has been selected for the New Zealand team to compete in the world rollerskating artistic championships in West Germany later this year. She will be the youngest artistic roller-skater to represent New Zealand. A roller-skating spokesman, Mr Bill Mudford, said that skaters had to be aged at least 12 to compete in a world championships. Miss Mills would have reached that age by the time of the championships. The team was announced at the end of the national rollerskating championships in Nelson where Hamilton beat Papatoetoe, 3-0, in the women’s final. A roller-hockey team to play in the world championships in Portugal in May was also named.

Women’s figure-skating: Anita Maynard (Auckland), Debbie McLeod (Wellington), Robyn-Ann Harpur (Tokoroa). Women’s freeskating: Maynard, Harpur, Mills. Men’s figure-skating: Rodney Hale (Wellington), David Hook (Manawatu). Men’s freeskating: Hale, Hook, Keith Alexander (Papatoetoe).

The roller-hockey team is — Donald Mackie (Wellington, captain),. Martin Mudford, Brent Mudford, Clyde Jackson (Papatoetoe), Paul Curd, Charlie Lovieh (Mt Wellington), Chris Haines, Vance Crozier (KiwiManawatu), John Channon (Wanganui).
