Lister ends four-year drought
PA Dunedin John Lister broke a fouryear drought and the Chisholm Park course record yesterday when he shot a seven under par 64 to win the professional section of the $15,000 Dunedin City proam tournament. . It was Lister’s first tourna-
ment win since 1977 and he did it in style. He soon overtook the first round leaders and won by three strokes from Richard Coombes. “This is a nice way to finish my golfing year,” Lister said after his immaculate round. He said his game had
gradually come right over the last four months and the win had put him in great shape. “I’ve led after two rounds of several of the fourround tournaments, including the New Zealand Open and the P.G.A. at Tauranga. I think I must be a two-round golfer,” Lister said. He will take a Christmas
holiday break in Timaru before leaving late next month to play the United States circuit again.
Richard Coombes, aged 28, a Wellington-based professional, was runner-up, followed by Walter Godrey, Simon Owen (fourth) and Greg Alexander (fifth).
