Defendants on 65 charges
Seven persons facing a total of 65 charges denied the alleged offences when they appeared before Judge Frampton in the District Court yesterday. The seven — six men and a girl — face charges involving wilful damage, assault, and the unlawful possession of offensive weapons, relating to a variety of unlawful assembly charges. The alleged offences were said to have occurred in Christchurch on December 2 and 3.
Gregory Lance Bamford, aged 20. an apprentice mechanic; John William
Frater, aged 20, unemployed; William Thomas. Michael Holmes, aged 22, a sandblaster; Michael John Holmes, aged 19. unemployed, were represented by x Mr D. C. Fitzgibbon. David Ernest Dunn, aged 21, unemployed; Robert Michael Hendry, aged 20, unemployed; and Leanda Jane Brewer, aged 18, unemployed, were all represented by Mr J. S. Halls. All seven were remanded on bail of $750 to March 16 for a defended hearing. 41 CHARGES A young woman facing 41 charges of fraud and false pretence was remanded on bail without plea to January 15. Karen Maria Huia, aged 18, a press operator, (Mr S. -G. Barker), is alleged to have committed the offences around the North Island in September. With the use of cheques and a Visa card Huia is alleged to have obtained clothing, cameras, jewellery, footwear and watches worth almost $l5OO. DEPOSITIONS A man charged with raping a woman in Boon Hay was remanded in custody to January 28 for the taking of depositions. He is John Richard Taylor, aged 21, a builder’s labourer (Mr D. C. Fitzgibbon).
He was remanded in custody, and Mr Fitzgibbon said an application for bail was pending in the High Court. CHARGE DENIED
An apprentice electrician, who is charged with assaulting Malcolm Gavin Wong with intent to injure, denied the alleged offences. Glen Douglas Rossiter, aged 17, (Mr K. J. Grave) was remanded on bail to March 19 for a defended hearing. The charge relates to the alleged stabbing of a jogger at Church Corner on December 9.
