Christmas telegrams
The Post Office has released the following dates for the delivery of telegrams within Australia, Britain, Northern Ireland, and Greece over the ChristmasNew Year period. Full-rate telegrams to Australia for delivery before Christmas must be lodged with the Post Office before 10 a.m. on December 24. Letter telegrams and greeting letter telegrams should be lodged before 5 p.m. on the previous day.
Telegrams to Britain and Northern Ireland to be delivered before Christmas Day should be sent no later than December 22. Only , messages of a “life and death” nature will be delivered on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Christmas telegrams to Greece must be lodged ini New Zealand no later than 5 p.m. on December 22, and New Year telegrams no later than 5 p.m. on December 29,
for senders to be assured of delivery. The Post Office also advises that the Christchurch Chief Post Office will be closed 'on Christmas Day, Monday, December 28, New Year’s Day, and Monday, January 4. - Local and ..rural deliveries will stop on Christmas Day and will not resume until December 29. There, will be no deliveries from January 1 to January 3. -.
