LOGGING SUPERINTENDENT TASMAN FORESTRY (1981), LTD, Northern Region OWING TO AN INTERNAL Tasman Forestry transfer, a vacancy exists for a Logging Superintendent to manage Tasman’s northern region harvesting operations in the Bay of Plenty. The position will be based in Kawerau. Current operations are centred around the production thinning of 9 - 12 year old P. radiata (200,000 tonnes in 1981/82) on Tasman’s forest estate which totals 33,000 hectares in the region. The harvesting of woodlots and native salvage operations to supply a variety of markets are important ancillary operations and the planning for a major expansion in production from clearfelling in the mid 1980 s is well advanced. The major responsibilities of the successful applicant will involve the management of contract roading, logging, loading and transport activities, including contract negotiations and pricing, for harvesting operations in the Bay of Plenty. Applicants should have had several years’ experience in harvesting, planning and administration particularly involving production thinnings and a knowledge of the construction of major roading systems would be an advantage.
