Noble Heights may start in Derby
Special correspondent Cambridge
Holiday racing plans for the fine filly, Noble Heights, will be formulated following her running in the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni today, according to her co-trainer, Laurie Laxon.
Originally it was planned that.. the Ladies’ Mile at Ellerslie on December 29 and Royal Stakes on January 2, both Wrightson Filly of the Year races, would come next for Noble Heights. This may well prove to be so but consideration is being given to a start in the New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. After. Noble Heights had done her final training - at Cambridge before leaving for Awapuni Laxon said: “There is nothing definite yet and it is just a case of keeping our options open.
“We will wait and see how she comes through her race on Saturday. If she ran in the Derby she would not race again for a bit.”
He was thoroughly satisfied with Noble Height’s showing in her exhibition gallop with Swell Deal at Te Rapa last Tuesday.
“She seemed to do her work well and she looks to have come through it well,” Laxon said.
The pair were unofficially timed at Imin 14s for 1200 m, the last 600 m in 36.55.
On Thursday Noble Heights and Silver Wraith did quiet work on the sand at Cambridge, at half pace for a round then their last 1400 m at three-quarter pace. Laxon is also quite happy with Silver Wraith’s progress. Both will be ridden by Gary Phillips at Awapuni.
