Going to pot
Flowerpot Gardening. By Grete Janus Hertz; photographs by Mogens Hertz. Longman, 1981. 22 pp. $10.95.
The ideas in this book will delight any young gardener, and the language is aimed at the seven to 10 age group. The photographs and diagrams are excellent, and so they should be at this price for a very slim volume. Although the book has been translated from Danish, it is quite appropriate for New Zealand. Young readers learn to grow cress in eggshells, tomatoes in pots, parsley, chives, flowers, and even potatoes. All can be done in pots on the windowsill, and it may even inspire young horticulturalists to more ambitious, outdoor efforts. — A. J. Petre.
