Broadcasts refused

PA Wellington The Auckland-based private radio station, New Pacific, may broadcast all races live from the Otaki-Maori Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. This follows a refusal by the Avondale Jockey Club to allow the station to broadcast its meeting on Saturday. At a meeting of the committee of the Avondale Jockey Club on Monday it was decided to continue with Radio IZB as the sole broadcaster of races from Avondale.

Avondale Jockey Club secretary Mr John Wild, said his committee felt that it would not be fair to allow a competitor of IZB — New Pacific —to broadcast races from the course. Mr Wild said the committee in making this decision acknowledged the support of !ZB to the club, particularly the sponsorship of the IZB Allrounder which has proved such a resounding success. As a result of the Avondale decision New Pacfic approached the Otaki Maori Racing Club regarding the broadcasting of that meeting on Saturday. Otaki secretary Mr Neale Ames, said yesterday the club is hopeful of having the services of New Pacific but he added there was a problem regarding the positioning of an additional commentator.

“There is no room for an additional commentator in the announcer's box but we are working on the problem j and hope to cbme up with a r solution,’’ Mr Ames said.
