Turner unavailable
PA Dunedin Glenn Turner, the Worcestershire captain and the former New Zealand opening batsman, is not available for selection in the Otago Shell series cricket side this season. Turner advised Mr W’arren Shirley, the Otago convenor of selectors, yesterday morning that he would not be available. Aged 34, he has scored 98 first class centuries and said after his return to New Zealand from England in Octo-.
ber that he was tempted to reach the milestone of 100 first class centuries in New Zealand this season. Turner last represented Otago in the 1979-80 season. He wrote in his weekly newspaper column yesterday that other commitments, involving his family and television work, had caused him to decide against playing for the Otago eleven. Mr Shirley said he was sure that when Turner finished his career with Wor-
cester he would once again be available for Otago. “Glenn has a lot to offer, especially as far as our younger players are concerned. So many young players are modelling their batting on him.” Turner is one of a number of prominent Otago players not available for the Shell series. Others include Brian McKechnie, Graeme Thomson, Bruce Taylor, Richard Webb, Barry Milburn, Geoff Blakely, Carl Dickel and Bob Wilson.
