Joyarty on target

Joyarty showed she was on target for the Dunedin Cup when she won the Palisade Cup at the Beaumont Racing CLub’s meeting on Saturday. Joyarty won in the style of a horse on the way up. Brian Anderton, her North Taieri trainer, planned to race her next in the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap (2200 m a week before the $20,000 Dunedin Cup. but he is now considering a start in the $BOOO Galaxy Stakes at Riccarlon next Saturday. Acceptances for the Galaxy and other races at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting are not due until mid-day on Wednesday. Joyarty was ridden by Jim Pankhurst who won the Dunedin Cup on Candyboy last year. Candyboy finished an unlucky second to Gafa Gate in the Palisade Cup at his previous start. Joyarty’s win was a first for her owners Neville Broderick of Gore. Lorraine Lillicrapp. of Cromwell and Margaret Secretan. of Perth. They took over the Noble Bijou—Artifice mare after their father Tom Broderick died in June. They had not previously raced a horse. Joyarty was having her fourth start in a fresh campaign. She won by half a length from Tiara after a stern tussle with that runner near the 200 m. Purple Velle headed the others in a gap of six lengths and a hall. Joyarty improved from back in the "field at the 700 m when Postscript the pacemaker began to give ground. She followed Tiara which had been in mid-field. Cara Dee led at the 600 m then Tiara took a narrow lead early tn the run home. It was a family quinella. Hector Anderton "the father of Brian prepares Tiara for his wife. Alice; both five-year-old mares are by Noble Bijou which stands at’Brians White Robe Lodge Stud. Tiara, which has freshened with a course of beach work, will continue her Dunedin Cup preparation at Tapanui on Saturday.
