Coast watch kept for S.A. yacht
PA Auckland HART, the anti-apartheid group, has coastal observers to give an early warning of the arrival of the South African yacht Xargo 111 in the Whitbread round-the-world race. The group’s national organiser, Mr John Minto, said that the observers were “far enough up the coast to give a good warning."
The effectiveness of HART’s planned seaborne protest to greet the yacht depended on how far in advance the group knew of its arrival, said Mr Minto. “Provided we get that early warning we will have a good turnout on the water.” Xargo 111, which was yesterday about 600 miles from Auckland, is unlikely to arrrive for at least two days.
