General forecast: Mainly fine over the North Island but cloudy at times in western districts with a few showers likely about the high country. Over the South Island, rain west of the Alps, scattered falls spreading to eastern and southern districts during the day. District forecasts: Canterbury; Moderate northerlies developing and turning to fresh north-easter-lies in some coastal places, high cloud increasing with rain in the Alps and scattered falls elsewhere. Nelson: Moderate north-east-erlies, cloud increasing with some showers in the

west; mild by day. Marlborough: Northerlies, fresh about the Sounds; mainly fine and mild apart from increasing high cloud. Buller; Cloud thickening with rain developing this morning; north-easterlies slowly freshening. Westland: Moderate northerlies developing . and freshening; high cloud thickening with rain. Outlook: Some showers in western districts of the North Island and some rain in many South Island areas, but mainly fine in the east of the North Island.
