Sir—l was going to write expressing my alarm at the juxtaposition of the two headlines (November 16),. “Support for P.M. strong” and “Jewish centre desecrated.” A. D. Stroobant has expressed my own feelings exactly in his eloquent letter (November 18). Horrifying happenings like the desecration of a synagogue do not' just- happen .unless the political climatejn a country is conducive to. acts of racism. We ’have witnessed • over the past years divisions being fomented, intolerance - praised as a virtue and narrrow-mind-edhess exalted as a creed I sympathise with the Jewish people who came to this country to escape just these condi : tions. I hope and pray my fellow New Zealanders will have the will and the vision to ensure that we return to a more sane and humane country. It is still not too late. — Yours, etc., JILL WILCOX. November 18, 1981.
