Saudis may be handful

NZPA staff correspondent Hong Kong

Saudi Arabia was likely to be a handful for New Zealand in next Saturday’s World Cup soccer match in Auckland, the New Zealand coach, John Adshead, said in Singapore on Saturday night. After watching China’s two victories over Saudi Arabia in Kuala Lutnpur, he said that during the first half of the first match Saudi Arabia had looked the best team in the Asia-Oceania group. But its play in the second half and during the second match on Thursday night had been abysmal.

“They are going to get a better surface in Auckland,” Adshead said. “I think we are going to find them a handful.”

“I think it is safe to say that China will qualify,” he said. “So that leaves us and Kuwait to decide the other qualifier from the group. We cannot afford to lose a game.”
