Betting well up
In spite of unfavourable weather for the two night meetings the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s cup carnival was a success. On-course betting for the two days and two nights rose by $216,506 to $3,434,573. The off-course total was $3,284,718, an increase of $221,342.505. Betting on-course on Saturday declined by $52,497 to $443,778 due to the cold easterly wind which swept Christchurch. Saturday’s off-course betting was restricted by a breakdown in communications between the South Island and Wellington. The total from this source was $627,465, a drop of $20,891.50. A wet night last Tuesday and the wind on Saturday had their effect on attendance which totalled 52,335, aganist 54,667.
