Smithfield market
An excess of YL grade New Zealand iamb on the U.K. wholesale market last week resulted in a decline in prices, tne New Zealand Meat Producers’ Boara reports in its weekly market survey. This tended to also reduce the prices of other grades of New Zealand lamb, but there were signs that tne market had firmed slightly after the sale of a large volume on Thursday. On Smithfield market PL grade New Zealand lamb was quoted at 61-63.0 p per lb and PM grade, 63-65.0 p per lb. The market for imported
and domestic beef in the United States weakened and only light trading was . reported. New Zealand 90VL boneless cow beef averaged 103 U.S. cents per lb. c.i.f., down one cent on the previous week. There was little movement in the Japanese mutton market last week. Offers of relatively small parcels of New Zealand MLI grade carcases at 56.0 U.S. cents per lb attracted little interest from importers. Australian exporters were reported to be more active at prices of 50-52 U.S. cents per lb for carcase product.
