Wind does not deter Courtenay A. and P. Show crowds

Blustery north-east winds did not deter crowds attending the Courtenay Agricultural and Pastoral Association show at Kirwee on-Saturday. Gate takings equalled last year’s total of $l3OO, but programme sales were slightly higher than usual. Entries in some sheep and cattle events were down on last yean but the show attracted a record number of goat entries. The judge of the Border Leicester and English Leicester, sheep sections, Mr K. D. Stevenson. was disappointed at the low number of entries but was impressed by the quality. The under-18 month ram Border Leicester winner was of outstanding quality with a typical Border Leicester fleece.

The judge of the Romney sheep section, Mr H. I. Robinson, said the top sheep in each category were good examples of their breed. The champion ewe and ram were of a particularly high standing. Horse championships were:Led class — Mrs S. H. Sampson’s Dakonal Title; reserve champion Reid Family’s Broaogate Just So. Brood Mare: B. M.
