New Taiboys award
The retiring Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Trade, Mr Taiboys, has been honoured by members of his former profession. The president of the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists, Mr Peter Burke, has announced the establishment of a premiere award in agricultural communications named in honour of Mr Taiboys. The award will be known as the Brian Taiboys Award for Agricultural Communications and will be presented annually to the person who has made the major contribution to New Zealand agri-
cultural communications during the year. Mr Burke said the guild was proud to name the award after Mr Taiboys, a former agricultural journalist, in recognition of his magnificent service to agriculture, agricultural trade and indeed to New Zealand over many years. “As Minister of Agriculture during the 1960 s he led our farming industry through a growth period unprecedented until recent times. As Minister of Overseas Trade he carved a place in the international arena for our agricultural exports, without
which New Zealand farmers and the nation would have had an uncertain future. "His achievements as Minister of Foreign Affairs have given New Zealand an international standing far above that expected from a nation of New Zealand’s size.” Mr Burke said the award was a tangible way of acknowledging the outstanding contribution Mr Taiboys had made to New Zealand. The first award will be presented at the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists’ conference, being hosted by the New Zealand guild, in November next vear.
