CSR at lowest for two years
CSR collapsed to its lowest closing price in more than two years on the Australian sharemarket after traders stripped 43c from the sugar and minerals group to leave it languishing at 355 c. CSR sank to 350 c during early trading, reflecting the market’s reaction to its S3SM capital raising through a one-for-five rights issue, and the 30 per cent interim profit fall announced late on Wednesday. The stock bore the brunt of selling pressure which saw the market indicator, the allordinaries index, fall 3.8 points to 561.4. Stable, and in some cases buoyant, prices for a wide range of industrial stocks cushioned the jolt to the
market from declining mineral and oil issues. Market observers said there seemed little chance of an early recovery Industrials—Amatil. 225; ACI, 170; Aust Fert, 120; Ampol. 170; ANI, 335; ANZ, 562; APM, 218; ARC, 160; ASC Props, 108; Assoc Pulp, 200; Advertiser, 241; AWA, 300; Bundaberg, 300; BHP, 990; Brambles. 250; BMI, 160; NSW, 299; Boral. 336; Burns P, 270; Borg W, 160; Carp, 200; CIG. 265; Clyde, 270; Comalco, 180; C'maine, 340; Coal All, 778; Coles, 237; CSR, 355; CUB. 240; Dunlop. 110; Email. 152; EZI, 440; Gen Prop Trust. 175; Gordon Gotch, 210; GUD. 200; Hardie. 370: Hooker. 132; Hanimex, 105; Humes. 172.
