Cook to defend title
Reg Cook, of Auckland, will begin his defence of the Shellsport national salooncar championship at Levels, near Timaru, on Sunday. Cook is driving the Datsun Sunny coupe that won him last season’s title, but it has a different engine, a 1595 cu cm unit based on the Datsun 1200 cu cm pushrod motor. Cook can expect some stern opposition from the strong North Island con-
tingent also coming south for the first round, including Warren Steel (Taupo, Escort 1600), Mike Moore (Palmerston North, Escort 1600), and Roy Harrington (Auckland, Escort 1600). Several South Islanders also have a good chance of taking the title off Cook this season. They include Grant Aitken (Dunedin, Datsun coupe 1600), Wayne Murdoch (Timaru, Avenger 1600).
