Fans crushed to death
NZPA Ibague, Colombia At least 18 soccer fans were crushed to death yesterday when a portion of the concrete grandstand of the crowded stadium, “Manuel Murillo Toro,” collapsed moments before the start of a match. A spokesman for the main local hospital confirmed that
18 people were dead and at least another 18 were injured. Witnesses said one of the supports of the western grandstand broke and part of the stand fell over the fans. Last year the stadium was closed for several weeks after one of the stands collapsed completely when the stadium was empty.
