Fendalton
PROFILE: Comprising mostly upper-income residential areas, with some middle-income pockets in Riccarton, Hillmorton, and Bryndwr, Fendalton is the only urban electorate held by National in Canterbury. 1978 results: National, 9480; Labour, 7524; Social Credit, 1603; Values, 1017. The retiring member, Mr Eric Holland, won the seat for National in 1978 with a majority of 1956. Considered a fairly safe National seat, Labour needs a 5.8 per cent swing to win.
