Fifth amateur
New Zealand’s biggest amateur charity tournament, “The Press” Garden City Golf Classic, will be held for the fifth time at the two Harewood courses tomorrow and Sunday. This year’s tournament will be the thirteenth Garden City Classic and the fifth since it became entirely amateur. In the earlier years, the tournament was a
professional event preceded by a one-day Pro-Am. More than 300 golfers will compete in the week-end tournament. Scoring will be by aggregate stableford stores for each member of a team of four. In previous years, profits have been used to buy “jaws of life” equipment, a heart defibrillator, a surf life-sav-ing rubber boat and a neonatal heart monitor.
