Food processors get 10 per cent rise
Processing . workers at Watties. Unilever, and other food factories will get a wage increase of 10.1 per cent under their award, from next month. The award, which covers factories throughout New Zealand except for those in Auckland, Otago, and Southland. was settled in Wellington this week. It provides for a 10.1 per cent basic wage ■increase and a 2 per cent catch-up with the Genera. Drivers' Award. The secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Food Processors’ Union. Mr Conway Jack, said that the worker’s would also get a big increase in their service allowances. an extra week's annual leave after eight years of service instead of 10. and if called back to do overtime would receive a minimum of four hours_ pay instead of the present two. Youth workers would get adult rates of pay after one year •of service with ■ the same employer.
