Station bombed

NZPA-Reuter Paris An explosion went off late Monday night (French time) in Paris’s Gare de I’Est train station which was packed with travellers, but only two people were slightly injured and part of the left-luggage room was damaged. An anonymous caller telephoned Agence FrancePresse afterwards and said the Orly Organisation, an Armenian group which claimed responsibility for several anti-French attacks in Beirut last week, engineered the blast. At the time of the explosion the Gare de I'Est, one of the main stations in the capital, was full of soldiers returning to duty in West Germany. The alleged Orly spokesman said the incident was “the last warning to the French Government,” and added that the group was demanding “the release of our comrade Dimitriu Giorgiu arrested by the French authorities” and “that the French Government take a position in support of the Armenian-people and recognise the Armenian genocide.” Mr Giorgiu was arrested at Orly Airport in Paris last week and charged with being in possession of a fake passport.
