Job at the Palace
NZPA London When a butcher boy, Steve Varey lost his job, he decided to write to the Queen to tell her of his plight. A year later, Mr Varey, aged 18, was called to the Palace, interviewed and is now a kitchen porter to Her Majesty. “I was very nervous when the day came,” he said, from Wigan, in northern England. I “1 walked round London I for four hours until it was time to report I just went to I
the side, door and a policeman was expecting me. The head chef showed me round the kitchens and told me to go home, and think about it,” Mr Varey said. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said, “A lot of people write to us for jobs and, if there is a post, obviously they are considered.”
