Rape victim recovers
NZPA staff correspondent Washington An Auckland girl, aged 20, who was brutally battered and raped in Forida last week is recovering well in hospital. It is believed that doctors are considering the use of plastic surgery for her head injuries. They are also optimistic that her left eye. which was endangered in the attack,-will be saved. The Tallahassee Memorial Hospital continues to describe her condition as satisfactory. The Florida police said yesterday-that there was still no trace of her attacker, a black man in his 30s. Police said he raped the girl and battered her with a cement slab after giving her a lift on November 10. The girl, who was left for dead by the roadside, was on a hitch-hiking holiday. Her parents arrived at Tallahassee last Friday and have since spent most of each day at her bedside. The local community, which has set up a trust fund to help the family, has given food, clothes, and the use of a rental car to the couple.
