Catamaran contest
PA Greymouth For the first time in 15 years, a West Coast yachtsman took out the major honours in the A class section of the South Island catamaran . championships, which were held at Lake Brunner on the week-end. Gary Hopkinson’s Snoopus came out on top ahead of titleholder. Chris Hensley, in Vista. A Kaikoura yachtsman, Robert Craig (Blue Duck), retained his title in the paper tiger class, as did Des and Elaine Bryson (Blue Rhapsody) in the tornado class. Twenty-nine boats took part in
the series which was staged fo. the most part in light winds. Over-all results were: Paper tigers: Blue Duck, R. Craig (Kaikoura) 1; Master Blaster, C. Keenan (Christchurch 2; Artful Dodger, R. Rayner (Christchurch) 3. A class: Snoopus, G. Hopkinson (West Coast) 1; Vista, C. Hensley (Christchurch) 2; Legend, G. Walter (Christchurch) 3. Tornadoes: Blue Rhapsody (D. and E. Bryson) 1; Stray Cat, B. Nalder and R. Urwen (Nelson) 2; Thickening Plot, R. Allen and M. Philpott (Christchurch) 3.
