Cricket selection trials
The North Canterbury Cricket Association has announced players for Canterbury Minor Association trials to choose under 18 and High School third and fourth form teams to play in South Island tournaments in December. The selection trials will be played at the Ashburton Domain this Sunday at 10.30 a.m. to choose teams from players nominated from North Canterbury, Ashburton, South Canterbury and the West Coast. The under-18 open tournament replaces what was previously the South Island senior secondary school tournament. To encourage cricket amongst younger pupils at high schools the secondary schools third and fourth form tournament has been introduced. As well North Canterbury will hold another trial on November 29 in Christchurch to choose a
team for an under-16 tournament, in which the other teams will be Canterbury, Ashburton, South Canterbury, North Otago, and Christchurch Suburban. The North Canterbury nominations for the under-18 and the third and fourth teams are:— Under-18: John Hamilton, Gary Aitken, Tony Merrin, Chris Rolfe (Ashley); Gary ' Chamberlain, Andrew Barkle (Ellesmere); Greg Newman (Malvern). Third and fourth forms: Brian Plaskett, Stuart Alexander, Alastair Hamilton, Michael Sharp, David Aitken, Garry Merrin (Ashley); Andrew McDonald (Ellesmere).
