Reputable builder
Building a swimming pool involves expenditure that warrants the best possible job because correcting a poor job is expensive. Ask the builder to show you at least four or five pools, and to show you proof that the pool design has been checked and approved by a registered structural engineer. Notice the design lay-out and the position of the filter equipment. If you have an experienced, reputable builder you have assurances that the pool is properly constructed and that any problems which may arise will be resolved by the builder. Make sure you have a written quotation clearly listing the cost of all the items. Do not accept an “all in”quote; insist on a breakdown. There are no safe short cuts in an effort to economise. . An ill-advised savings in material or use of unskilled labour can result - in
major failure of the structural shell. A checklist for prospective pool owners is: •' What guarantees are given? Be sure what the guarantee covers. There are two elements in most guarantee or warranty covers, those related to the internal finish of the pool and to the structure itself. • Is there a structual design certificate? • How many years’ experience at pool building has the company had? • Check that the builder is a genuine bonded builder of the New Zealand Spa and Pool Association, or that he is a member in good standing. • Make sure you understand the contract and are aware of your responsibilities. Make sure that the filtration equipment included in your agreement is one that will complement the pool and that it is large enough to filter the pool properly.
