Books, hair care
Next door to Use Your Loaf in the Buckleys Road block is the Bellis Bookshop, run by Lloyd and Jo Bellis. Besides instruction manuals and beautiful books on particular topics, there is an impressive range of magazines to cater for a huge range of interests. There are paperbacks and jigsaws for both children and adults, and the children’s books and games include a selection of products specially designed for Christmas. Stationery includes school requirements, a big choice of “occasion” cards and some attractive gift items, such as photograph albums, address books and diaries. The Bellis Bookshop also sells Golden Kiwi tickets, and, like many of the Linwood shops, is open Saturday morning as well. ©Three doors away, in the side alleyway off Buckleys Road, is the attractively appointed Linwood Beauty Salon. It was formerly in Linwood Avenue, across the road from the site of the new development. Averil Thomas has taken her old telephone number — 894-293 — to the new salon where she continues to run a thriving, wide-ranging busi-
ness, styling hair for men, women and children, and doing tints, permanent waves, streaking and setting. Averil. Julie, Lynda and Sue now have a modern workplace, designed for the purpose by Averil, and decorated in golds and browns with natural pine and a white ceiling. The salon’s hours are' 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the week, except for a late night on Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
