Lion share bid
An Auckland businessman, Mr A. D. Myers, yesterday spent $22 million to acquire 15 per cent of the capital of Lion Breweries, Ltd. His order, made on the open sharemarket, to all shareholders of Lion Breweries, was filled by lunchtime. The prompt response, which obviously surprised Mr Myers, led him to announce
that he would continue buying to increase his stake in the country’s largest liquor merchant to almost 20 per cent. This would cost Mr Myers another $7 million. The Myers family has been associated with the liquor industry for more than 100 years. Details, Page 26
