Shipping news More ships for Tasman trade
Maritime Carriers (N.Z.) Ltd. a member of the Waitaki-NZR group of companies., has expanded its tonnage capacity by 400 per cent with the introduction of two further ships into the Tasman trade. One is a new vessel, the Totara, which has a 300 container capacity and is "self sustaining” — it needs no specialised shore equipment. It recently made a successful maiden voyage from Auckland to, Sydney and Melbourne. The Waitaki has commenced a new service between Lyttelton. Wellington and Australia, and the Dunedin is soon to begin direct calling between Australia. New Plymouth. Wellington and Napier. The chairman of Maritime Carriers. Mr E. J. Neilson, said that, coinciding with the expanded services, the carrier had appointed an associate company. Pacific Maritime, Ltd. as general sales agents in New Zealand. That company will be responsible for all sales and promotions of Maritime Carriers services. Until now, Pacific Maritime has acted as a general agent for tiie independent company ABC Containerline, operated by the shipping magnate, Mr T. V. Rosenfeld.
