Court halts spy story

NZPA London The London “Sunday Times” alleged it is being gagged in its efforts to name more men allegedly involved in the Anthony Blunt spy ring. A report in yesterday’s edition of the paper says a High Court judge granted an injunction on Saturday preventing anyone being named. The injunction is said to run until Thursday. Under a headline of “Our spy story is gagged,”, the “Sunday Times” makes its allegations, but without nam-

ing anyone. The newspaper says the new allegations concern the role of men identified by British intelligence as Communist activitists who lived in the United States for years. The men were said to move in the upper echelons of American political life. They were reported to have close ties with the White House and helped ■writes, at least once, a speech for a former American Vice-President. The “Sunday Times” says

one man flew to London on Friday to discuss the impending newspaper report with his lawyers. Later he denied the allegations contained in documents from the United State’s State Department and intelligence. The newspaper says that despite warnings from British intelligence the American authorities apparently did not bother to investigate until the late 19405. Anthony Blunt, the Queen’s former art adviser was unmasked two years ago as having been a Soviet spy.
