Foot destroys Benn’s chances in party vote
NZPA London The leader of the British opposition Labour Party, Michael Foot, has performed a demolition job on the Maverick Left-winger, Tony Benn, which has devastated his chances of re-election to the shadow Cabinet. Mr Foot, furious about the row over party policy which
he believes Mr Benn stirred up, signalled that no Labour members of Parliament should support Mr Benn in the shadow Cabinet election now under way. The Labour leader spurned Mr Benn’s suggestion that the should meet over the week-end at Mr Foot’s convenience.
He warned Mr Benn that he personally would not vote for him for the shadow Cabinet, and he would not recommend other Members of Parliament to vote for him either. This was a comprehensive and total attack by Mr Foot on Mr Benn in a bid to end the internal warring within the party
