Theatre’s ‘firsts’
- The Court Theatre celebrated three firsts on Saturday evening. " , . The firsts were: the official opening of the new auditorium, the opening night of “Ring Round the Moon,” and the presentation of the biggest amount- bf money raised by the Court Theatre C Supporters. The auditorium, which was financed-mainly by the supporters, was opened by the chairman of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, Miss Joan Kerr. A cheque for $lO,OOO was presented by the chairman of
the supporters, Dr Koger Field, to. the chairman of the Theatre Trust Board, Mr D. . P. Page.-; ' ■ '•>. The money had been raised by supporters’ gifts and fund-raising. Mr Page said last evening that the money would probably be used to bring either foreign actors or a foreign director to work at the. ■ theatre.' ■ ; “We do not really need any more work done on the theatre,” he said. ? ; - : “It will be up to the board, jbut I think it will be used to bring foreign artists here.”
