General forecast: A depression in the northeast Tasman Sea should move slowly south, with rain over the North Island and the north of the South Island easing about midday to occasional showers and fine intervals, with mild northerly winds. The rain should be’come more general in the south of the South Island. District forecasts: Canterbury: North-easterly winds, freshening in many coastal places, overnight; overcast, with scattered drizzle turning to rain.
Marlborough: Easterly winds, freshening: rain, gradually easing and. fine intervals' developing inland. Nelson, Bullen Northeasterly winds, fresh and gusty in exposed places; rain, sometimes heavy in the ranges, but easing this morning to occasional showers, with some fine intervals; mild. Westland: Easterly winds, fresh in some valleys; cloudy, with occasional rain; mild. Outlook: Fine in the east of the North Island; unsettled elsewhere.
